From 1972 to 2008, the Foundation awarded 277 grants amounting to nearly $30 million in support of programs for immigrants and refugees.

Funding in the 1970s and 1980s was primarily geared toward organizations serving the Spanish-speaking population. Later, attention turned to Southeast Asian and Somali populations, which had greater and more immediate needs in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
