  RECENT NEWS AT BUSH  Thoughts from our President
 
 

In the next 10 years, the Foundation will recruit, prepare, place and support 25,000 new teachers for Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota as part of its Goals for a Decade. In his June/July column, Peter writes about why the Foundation chose to pursue teacher preparation as its strategy for increasing educational achievement and the important lesson he learned about education from a seventh-grade boy named Robert.

$1 Million Granted to Individual Artists
 

The Bush Artist Program celebrated artists on Monday, June 15 at a public event where it introduced 15 Bush Artist Fellows for 2009 (recipients of $50,000 fellowships) and announced three recipients of the $100,000 Enduring Vision Awards for 2009—storyteller Mary Louise Defender Wilson (Shields, ND), hoop dancer Kevin Locke (Wakapala, SD) and multidisciplinary performance artist Michael Sommers (Minneapolis, MN).
 

Foundation Releases 2008 Annual Report
 

The Bush Foundation began 2008 making traditional grants and ended it focused on creating partnerships to achieve its Goals for a Decade. Ready, Set Goals for a Decade tells the story of how we got from one point to the other and gives the details of our grantmaking, fellowships and investments in 2008. This annual report also includes a month-by-month timeline of the many changes that our transition required. We hope you'll enjoy this look back at 2008, a transformational year for the Foundation.
 

Meet the 2009 Medical Fellows
 

Thirteen 2009 Bush Medical Fellows will study in a wide range of fields including chronic pain, health care management, integrative medicine, neuro-development disorders, psychiatry, community engagement, acupuncture, epidemiology, diabetes management, critical-care medicine for rural communities and early childhood literacy. John Archabal Retires
 

When John Archabal came to the Bush Foundation 35 years ago as a program associate, he had no idea the job would stretch into a decades-long opportunity to witness hundreds of grantees and fellows do tremendous work using Foundation grants and fellowships. Bush Leadership Program Names 2009 Fellows
 

For the 44th year the Bush Foundation announces recipients of its Bush Leadership Fellowships. These 18 leaders from Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota will pursue academic or self-directed study aimed at further developing their leadership skills so they can make even bigger contributions to their communities.
